Litter Picking

Out And About In March

Melksham Lions members are constantly out and about; often behind the scenes but always working for our community in one way or another. Among other things this month, we’ve been pleased to present another cheque; this time to Wiltshire Mind who have been a great help to us in dealing with unwanted items through their local charity shop.

Cheque presented to Wiltshire Mind

Wiltshire Mind are themselves an extremely valuable and busy organisation within the area, providing vital support to those suffering with mental health issues. More information can be found on their website http://www.wiltshiremind.co.uk/ .

We’ve also been rather busy in a more ‘manual labour’ fashion; joining forces with other local folk to have a bit of a tidy up. Our esteemed president and secretary – husband and wife team Jim & Sue Whyborn – recently donned the fluoros, grabbed the grabbers, and set off on a litter picking adventure around the neighbourhood.

Our thanks go to all those who participated, especially the organisers; it’s such a shame that such an activity becomes necessary but alas it does, and the difference after cleaning is always a pleasure to see.

If you’d like to get involved in the local litter picks, get in touch and we’ll point you in the right direction. And if you’re that way inclined to want to support the community you live in… have a think about popping along to a Lions meeting sometime too šŸ™‚

The White Hart receive certificate of thanks

Thanks To White Hart

We were delighted recently to put two teams into a quiz night at The White Hart in Atworth; the proceeds of of which were generously donated to the club to bolster our community fundraising efforts. Every little helps, and this has been a big help! In recognition of this, we recently presented a certificate of thanks.

Melksham Lights cheque 2019

Donation To Melksham Lights

On Thursday 14th March we were delighted to present a cheque to Len Bealing of the Melksham Christmas Lights Group. This hard working team of volunteers are much appreciated in our town and give us a spectacular display each year. We are pleased to be able to contribute, and look forward to the 2019 display. Now then… how many shopping days do we have left…

New Lions Phil and Glynis Gaskell

Melksham Lions Welcomes New Members to Pride

Our new president has enjoyed his first official duty at our first meeting of the Lion year, by welcoming new members Phil and Glynis Gaskell to Melksham Lions Club.
Phil and Glynis have been attending meetings for a few months already now so know just what they are letting themselves in for! What’s more, they have already agreed to be our new ‘Lion Tamers’ and organise our social events, so that watch this space!! Well not THIS space you understand… a space somewhere nearby; mainly our Events page!
Melksham Lions Presidential Handover

Presidential Handover

26th June 2018 saw another ‘Handover Meal’; with the new start of the new Lion year, Lion President Keith Mead handed over to Lion Jim Whyborn who will preside for the next two years and we look forward to our next presidential chapter with Jim at the helm.

Melksham Lions Presidential Handover Meal

The presidential handover meal also marked further changes in the Melksham Lions Club. Lions Keith and Ruth Mead are taking a break from Lions (hopefully for not too long!) and two of our long serving members – Lion John Pritchard and Lion Cliff Terrell – retired after many years of service to Lions International; they were presented with a gift and, not forgetting the many hours given up in support over the years, their wives were presented with flowers.
