2014 - 40th Charter Dinner

Our 40th Year

This year, 2014, sees our club celebrate its fortieth birthday. How amazing is that? And WHERE has the time gone so fast? The 40th Charter Dinner was held on May 4th at the Shaw Country Hotel and a great day of celebration took place on May 31st. A big “Thank you” goes out to everyone who has supported these events and we look forward to further gatherings in the future. Now then… who’s got the cake?

2014 at Larkrise Community Farm

Busy Bees

We have been very pleased to be able to assist the Larkrise Community Farm in Trowbrdige with the purchase of a beehive for their apiary. A recent visit by some of our Lions showed great progress in the bee-keeping activities at Larkrise and we look forward to ongoing news on the project. And perhaps a jar of honey…

New Secretary After 28 Years

After a phenomenal 28 years in the not undemanding role of secretary – and as we welcome Steve to the presidential chair once again – Jack Roddis has now stepped down from the secretarial position; handing over his duties to Sue Whyborn who now has the task of keeping everything in order. Our huge thanks go to Jack for his great work over the past (28) years; an achievement that has not gone unnoticed and has been greatly appreciated. Thank you Jack, and good luck Sue!

In Memory of Lion Ken Haschka

In Memory Of Lion Ken Haschka

Ken and his wife Chris, who successfully took on the role of Social Secretary until June 2012, were both members of the Melksham Lions Club and in his dedication, Simon explained that although Ken had been a member for only a few years, he had been completely dedicated to the organisation; working very hard at arranging fund raising events for the local community. After his speech, everyone raised a glass as a toast to Ken. The seat will be overlooking the Bowling green.

Although the Melksham Lions Club has been going since 1973, Ken and Chris were the first couple to both become members. This has been most successful and we hope that many more ‘teams’ will follow suit! If anyone is considering joining, or, indeed, requires information about the Club please get in touch!
