Melksham Lions: Club News

Welcome to our Club News section. We will post various bits and pieces here as time goes on; articles that may be of interest to members and visitors alike. If you have anything you'd like to add here, please let us know.

This year, 2014, sees our club celebrate its fortieth birthday. How amazing is that? And WHERE has the time gone so fast? The 40th Charter Dinner is to be held on May 4th at the Shaw Country Hotel. Invites have been sent out and we hope to see a good crowd for this special occasion. If you haven't received an invitation and (or) the menu, please get in touch (Stuart B is your man, or anyone else on the committee if you don't have Stuart's details). Tickets are 25 each and need to be booked quite soon in order to manage seat numbers and menu choices.

Presidential handover of the chain of office, 2012

New President for 2012
Tuesday June 26th 2012 saw the official hand over of the Presidential role within Melksham Lions.

Members gathered at the Raven Inn in Poulshout to enjoy a lovely meal and to mark the occasion; Lion Peter Dauncey passed the baton to Lion Steve Petty who now takes the helm for the next two years. Many thanks go to Peter for all his work over the last two years and we look forward to the next term of office with Steve in the chair.

...and after 28 years, a new secretary
After a phenomenal 28 years in the not undemanding role of secretary - and as we welcome Steve to the presidential chair once again - Jack Roddis has now stepped down from the secretarial position; handing over his duties to Sue Whyborn who now has the task of keeping everything in order. Our huge thanks go to Jack for his great work over the past (28) years; an achievement that has not gone unnoticed and has been greatly appreciated. Thank you Jack, and good luck Sue!

Tuesday July 20th 2010 saw the official hand over of the Presidential role within Melksham Lions.

A dinner to mark the occasion was held at Melksham House where Lion Simon White passed the baton to Lion Peter Dauncey for the next two years. Many thanks go to Simon for all his work over the last two years and we look forward to the next term of office with Peter in the chair.

Even if you feel you can only offer a small amount of time or resource, you will be very welcome. Many hands make light work, and a lot more fun. Please get in touch!

In Memory of Lion Ken Haschka
On Sunday 29th November 2009 Lions Members and partners, together with family and friends of the late Ken Haschka gathered in the grounds of Melksham House to dedicate and place a seat in his memory. Lion Ken Haschka passed away in March 2009 after a long period of illness.

Dedication to Lion Ken Haschka
Ken and his wife Chris, who successfully took on the role of Social Secretary until June 2012, were both members of the Melksham Lions Club and in his dedication, Simon explained that although Ken had been a member for only a few years, he had been completely dedicated to the organisation; working very hard at arranging fund raising events for the local community. After his speech, everyone raised a glass as a toast to Ken. The seat will be overlooking the Bowling green.

Although the Melksham Lions Club has been going since 1973, Ken and Chris were the first couple to both become members. This has been most successful and we hope that many more 'teams' will follow suit! If anyone is considering joining, or, indeed, requires information about the Club please get in touch!
