Welcome to our Club News section. We will post various bits and pieces here as time goes on; articles that may be of interest to members and visitors alike. If you have anything you'd like to add here, please let us know.
What a lovely day at Seend, perfect weather and a good turn out of lions. Angie's cakes were much appreciated and the lion tombola had a steady stream of hopefuls. All takings very gratefully received and added in to the pot for our continued work in the community.
Donation To Wiltshire Mind
Our President Lion Jim Whyborn presented Wiltshire Mind with a cheque for £100 this morning, Wednesday August 5th 2015. Wiltshire Mind help many people in Melksham and the surrounding areas. They have just opened a charity shop in Melksham and have generously given us some items to help homeless vulnerable people in Melksham. If you would like to help too, we are looking for pots, pans, bedding, etc. to give to those who have nothing and are in a position of need. If able to help please call us or send an email; contact details here.
A Donation In Thanks
A cheque for £200 was presented to Enigma Twirl Team as a thanks for attending our 40th Anniversary Celebrations, and in support of the hard work and dedication of the members and trainers. Youth activities are always an important part of Lions Clubs Worldwide, and they try to support them wherever they can. The cheque was presented to Tanya Denning-Kuijper (Troupe leader) by Jim Whyborn (Lions President) and Sue Whyborn (Lions Secretary).

We have been very pleased to be able to assist the Larkrise Community Farm in Trowbrdige with the purchase of a beehive for their apiary. A recent visit by some of our Lions showed great progress in the bee-keeping activities at Larkrise and we look forward to ongoing news on the project. And perhaps a jar of honey...
You can visit the farm website here: www.larkrisefarm.org.uk

The 40th Charter Dinner was held on May 4th at the Shaw Country Hotel and a great day of celebration took place on May 31st. A big "Thank you" goes out to everyone who has supported these events and we look forward to further gatherings in the future. Now then... who's got the cake?

Our huge thanks go to Jack for his great work over the past (28) years; an achievement that has not gone unnoticed and has been greatly appreciated. Thank you Jack, and good luck Sue!

In Memory of Lion Ken Haschka
On Sunday 29th November 2009 Lions Members and partners, together with family and friends of the late Ken Haschka gathered in the grounds of Melksham House to dedicate and place a seat in his memory. Lion Ken Haschka passed away in March 2009 after a long period of illness.
Ken and his wife Chris, who successfully took on the role of Social Secretary until June 2012, were both members of the Melksham Lions Club and in his dedication, Simon explained that although Ken had been a member for only a few years, he had been completely dedicated to the organisation; working very hard at arranging fund raising events for the local community. After his speech, everyone raised a glass as a toast to Ken. The seat will be overlooking the Bowling green.
Although the Melksham Lions Club has been going since 1973, Ken and Chris were the first couple to both become members. This has been most successful and we hope that many more 'teams' will follow suit! If anyone is considering joining, or, indeed, requires information about the Club please get in touch!
